2014 Remembrance Day 'C' Mintmark $2 Coin

2014 Remembrance Day 'C' Mintmark $2 Coin

The 2014 Remembrance Day ‘C’ Mintmarked $2 coin is a favourite of ours. This beautiful coin was so shiny it was really difficult to image, although still an absolute pleasure to photograph.

On the 30th of October 2014 the Royal Australian Mint released the third of the coloured circulating coins. Acting Mint CEO Dom Appay stated on the day that “Australia’s third coloured circulating coin marks Remembrance Day 2014 and is normally distributed around this time. We thought it would be fitting to bring the coins to Albany as it marks the beginning of our Anzacs’ journey and Remembrance Day marking the end through the Armistice,”

The RAM announced in their media release that “The Anzac Albany crowd will be some of the first to see Australia’s newest coloured circulating coin in their change from the Mint’s special commemorative pop-up shop in Albany open from today (30/10/2014) until Sunday 2 November 2014.” The general public started to see this coin in their change over the coming weeks after the event.

The Mint Issue 103, released by the Royal Australian Mint in November 2014 stated that “At 11 am on 11 November 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent, marking the end of the war after four costly years. Since then, Remembrance Day has held a special meaning to Australia and other nations touched by the war. The coin features a dove and olive branch symbolising peace, supported by the encircling tranquil green colour on each coin.

The Mint is proud to release the nation’s third coloured circulating coin, soon to appear in your change, and this limited ‘C’ Mintmark edition in honour of this significant day. The centrally sculpted design features a dove carrying an olive branch, whilst the outer edges of the tranquil green coloured print are inspired by the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces’ original ‘Rising Sun.’ These elements featured together are representational of the peace the Armistice signified.”

The 2014 – 2015 Annual Report shows us that 27’500 2014 Remembrance Day ‘C’ Mintmarked $2 and 1'856'000 circulating type coins were produced.
