2017 Remembrance Day Rosemary 'C' Mintmark $2 Coin

2017 Remembrance Day Rosemary 'C' Mintmark $2 Coin

Here we have the 2017 Remembrance Day Rosemary 'C' Mintmarked $2 coin. The central design by Royal Australian Mint sculptor Aleksandra Stokic, identified by the initials ‘AS’ on the reverse; depicts the coloured symbolic rosemary sprig with six purple flowers encircling an unpainted rosemary flower. The word Remembrance and Two Dollars has been delicately sculptured with impressive style, woven into and below a larger unpainted outer rosemary sprig.

The Royal Australian Mint posted a media release on the 31st of October 2017; including quotes from the Minister for Small Business at the time, Michael McCormack “Mr McCormack said the special coins are a symbolic reminder to encourage people all around Australia to reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives during service.

On the 99th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War, the nation will observe one minute’s silence, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

Rosemary has become a universal symbol of remembrance. It has obtained particular significance for Australians. Traditionally rosemary sprigs are worn on Anzac Day to represent our love, happiness, and peace; often in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives during service.

The RAM also stated in the media release that “For those who want to ensure they are able to get some of these coins straight away, a pack of five coins or a $15 collectible version of this coin is available for purchase from the Mint’s website.

Coins are available for purchase from the Mint’s website. A contribution from the sale of all collectible coins in the Royal Australian Mint’s Official Anzac Centenary Coin Program is made to the Anzac Centenary Public Fund.

The Public Fund contributes to a range of significant projects will help leave a lasting and unifying legacy for all Australians.”

Mint Issue 116 details that the carded ‘C’ Mint of the coloured coin retailed at a price of $15, with the rolled circulating coin available through selected dealers.

The 2017 – 2018 RAM Annual Report indicates that 30’889 of the 2017 (although mistakenly stated as 2018) Uncirculated 'C' Mintmarked Remembrance Day Rosemary $2 coins were produced. The same report also shows that 2’122’000 of the coloured circulating type coins were produced.
