2019 National Police Remembrance Day 'C' Mintmark $2 Coin

2019 National Police Remembrance Day 'C' Mintmark $2 Coin

This 2019 National Police Remembrance Day 'C' Mintmarked $2 coin pays tribute to the sacrifice police members, their colleagues, and families regularly make within Australia. The 2019 National Police Remembrance Day was the 30th anniversary of the occasion, which is held annually on the 29th of September. The day relates to the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel, which is based in the Catholic biblical teachings found in the Old Testament. These teachings picture St Michael as the defender of the Church and chief opponent of Satan, who assists people at the hour of death. On the reverse of the coin we can see the letters AWB. These are the initials of Royal Australian Mint teacher, artist, writer, and designer Adam William Ball.

On the 11th of September 2019 the RAM stated in a media release that “The observance of National Police Remembrance Day grants police the opportunity to commemorate their fallen colleagues and ensure their legacies are preserved; enable family members to grieve and honour their lost loved ones; and act as a reminder to the public of the ultimate price that police might be called upon to pay, as they protect and serve the Australian people.

The new coin design resembles a police badge, incorporating St Edwards Crown (often referred to as the ‘Queen’s Crown’) in the centre, and the seven-pointed Commonwealth Star (also known as the Star of Federation), which represents the 1901 Federation of Australia.  The star is surrounded by a wreath, which represents victory. The blue and white chequered pattern known as a Sillitoe Tartan (commonly known as ‘dicing’) is used by police forces throughout Australia and is displayed on uniforms and vehicles. This coin design unifies all of Australia’s police forces in a spirit of solemn remembrance and gratitude.

The 30th Anniversary of the National Police Remembrance Day – 2019 $2 Coloured Uncirculated ‘C’ Mintmark Coin is available in a limited mintage of 40,000 - retailing for $15.00.   The coins are Australian legal tender and can be purchased from the Mint’s website or Contact Centre (1300 652 020). The Royal Australian Mint will be in Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne on Thursday 12 September to make the circulating coin more easily available to the general public.”

As listed by the RAM on a Facebook new releases post on the 6th of September, this coin was released on the Monday the 9th of September 2019 at 8:30am. The coin is also recorded in the Mint Issue 124 of September 2019.

The 2018 – 2019 RAM Annual Report indicates that 2’000’000 of the circulating Police Remembrance type coins were produced. The 2019 – 2020 report specifies that 40’000 of the ‘C’ Mintmarked $2 coins were minted. Additionally the 2019 – 2020 report shows that 5’000 official RAM rolls containing the circulating $2 Police coin were created.
