2021 Australian Ambulance Service ‘C’ Mintmark $2 Coin
The images included above show the 2021 Australian Ambulance Service ‘C’ Mintmarked $2 coin which was released on the 7th of October 2021, and the circulating type being released into circulation on the 14 of October 2021. This brilliant design honours Australia’s Ambulance Services succeeding their brave and skilled response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and all those who continue to provide vital healthcare to all Australians.
As highlighted by a RAM media release posted on the 14th of October 2021: “Ambulance services tirelessly provide urgent medical care to Australians everywhere. From the busy urban centres, the vast regional and rural districts, to the remote outback, they are there, ready 24/7 to provide life-saving support to patients in need. Over 33,000 paramedics, communication centre operatives, researchers, analysts, corporate staff and volunteers provide unrivalled service to foster and build the health and wellbeing of our communities.
David Waters, CEO from the Council of Ambulance Authorities (CAA), on behalf of all emergency ambulance services responding 24 hours a day across Australia, welcomes the addition of the Ambulance $2 coin release by the Royal Australian Mint.”
Mr Walters specified that “This coin recognises and celebrates the significant commitment of all the many men and women who are the ambulance staff and paramedics that care for all who live and reside in Australia during their hour of need. This is particularly poignant during these COVID times as the ambulance workforce battles this pandemic on the frontlines of emergency care, always putting their patients first,”
Following the 2019 Police and 2020 Firefighters coloured $2 releases, the 2021 Ambulance Services coin is the Mint’s third and final coin release commemorating Australia’s first responders. The reverse design principally depicts two paramedics administrating care to a patient. Located at the very centre of the coin is a Maltese Cross, which is an internationally recognised symbol for paramedics. Surrounding the Maltese Cross is a green ring, a colour featured across many Australian paramedic uniforms. The metal relief design under the paint includes twenty-four dots, one dot for each hour of the day, signifying how Australia’s Ambulance services are ready to help 24/7.
The creator Aaron Baggio’s initials are included in the lower right hand section of the design in the form of stylised A over B. As an experienced coin designer and sculptor working with the Royal Australian Mint since January 2008, Aaron has delivered us other amazing numismatic artistry such as the 2021 Mungo Footprints and 2021 Royal Australian Mint Coat of Arms reverse designs.
The October Mint Issue 135 encouraged consumers to “Show your support.” and “Collect yours today!” offering the ‘C’ Mintmark Coloured Uncirculated Coin at the retail price of $15.00.
To date the 2021 – 2022 RAM Annual Report shows that 50’000 of the 2021 'C' Mintmarked Australian Ambulance Service $2 coins were produced. The same report also details the Australian Ambulance Service $2 circulating mintage as being 2'000'000, plus 10’000 official RAM rolls, and 40’000 circulating type coins in sachets as being produced.
