2024 Kookaburra Kaa-Kaa $2 2oz Silver Antiqued Coloured Coin

$550.00
| /

One of Australia’s most beloved native birds, the kookaburra is celebrated here through the eyes of Whadjuk-Yuet-Ballardong artist Kevin Bynder, whose design weaves Dreaming symbolism, traditional colours and the rhythm of Nyoongar seasonal change into a spectacular antiqued release. Issued in 2024, the coin also marks The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary year.

The reverse of the coin portrays a richly coloured kookaburra adorned with white markings representing ochre from ancestral ceremonies, set against a field of dotted patterning — blue tones for the changing times of day, green for the Djeran season of April and May, and warm browns for the drier months. The design includes the special ‘P125’ mintmark commemorating The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary, with each coin individually antiqued so no two finishes are exactly alike.

The obverse of the coin bears the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, together with the $2 monetary denomination.

The coin comes housed in a contemporary display case, set within a beautifully illustrated shipper based on Kevin Bynder’s artwork, and is accompanied by an individually numbered certificate of authenticity attesting to its maximum mintage of just 2,000.
