Warrant Officer John “Snow” Coughlan
As a young helicopter crewman during the Vietnam War, John Coughlan volunteered to be winched down to rescue survivors from burning US Army helicopter wreckage in known enemy territory and dense  jungle. Warrant Officer Coughlan was the first RAAF member to receive a Conspicuous Gallantry Medal since the Second World War.

Wing Officer Doris Carter
Doris Charter was the first female track and field athlete to represent Australia at an Olympic Games in 1936. During the Second World War she joined the Royal Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. In 1951 Doris became the Director of the newly established Women’s Royal Australian Air Force, a position she held for 9 years.                                    

Warrant Officer Harold Allie * (unique to this product)
Uncle Harry Allie is a descendant of the Gudjala people, born in Charters Towers Queensland. He served in the Air Force for 23 years, attained Warrant Officer rank and had postings across Australia, Malaysia and the USA. Harry received a British Empire Medal and is the inaugural Indigenous Elder of the Royal Australian Air Force.

Warrant Officer Len Waters
When the Second World War erupted, young Kamilaroi man Len Waters grabbed the chance to fulfil a dream to fly. Enlisting in the RAAF in August 1942 he graduated as a fighter pilot, flying the Kittyhawk Black Magic in combat. Warrant Officer Len Waters holds the unique honour of being Australia’s only Indigenous fighter pilot in the Second World War.

Pilot Officer Rawdon Hume Middleton VC
Pilot Officer Rawdon Hume Middleton was posthumously awarded the RAAF’s first Victoria Cross of the Second World War. He was wounded when a shell exploded during an operation in Italy but he flew back to England and saved five crew members' lives. He perished in a crash with two others.
