In 2019 The Royal Australian Mint released this stunning proof set commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.

On the 21st of July 1969, over 500 million people watched in amazement as Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the Moon. The first few minutes of this iconic television broadcast was made possible by a 26 meter antenna dish at Honeysuckle Creek, ACT.

The momentous television event almost did not occur because of a fire within the transmitter at the Tidbinbilla tracking station also in the ACT. The Tidbinbilla station was assigned to track the Lunar Module Eagle (relating to the origins of the phrase "The Eagle has landed"), and the role of the Honeysuckle Creek station was to track the Eagle's orbiting lunar command module. The fiery twist of fate at Tidbinbilla station lead to Honeysuckle's significantly enhanced role in broadcasting man's first foot steps onto the moon.

Importantly, this set for the first time includes an alternatively designed reverse 5 cent proof coin (the 2017 Bananas in Pajamas 5 cent being the first altered reverse design on any uncirculated coin).

This 50th anniversary of the moon landing proof set not only aligns with the 50th Anniversary of the dodecagon 50 cent coin. This and the 2019 Milestones and Celebrations set are the only sets to include the last Proof Australian Coat of Arms (COA), cupronickel (CuNi) 50 cent coin supporting the Ian Rank-Broadley (IRB) effigy.

This historical set is sure to grow as a favourite among numismatists, collectors, and the wider community.
