On 14 February 1966 Australia changed over from pounds, shillings and pence to dollars and cents, and fifty years later the Royal Australian Mint marked the anniversary with this remarkable proof year set — the only set in which every denomination pairs its familiar reverse with a commemorative obverse.

Each obverse presents a reduced effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley beside a representation of the pre-decimal coin each denomination replaced: the penny on the 5c, threepence on the 10c, sixpence on the 20c, shilling on the 50c, florin on the $1 and crown on the $2.

The reverses carry the beloved Stuart Devlin designs that have graced Australia’s coins since 1966.

The six proof coins are presented in the Mint’s case with certificate of authenticity.
